DEER Puzzle Pieces:

Joseph Deere b1804 -- Keturah Deere b1789

Joseph b1804--Cynthia Gartman b1815

Deere family here that has not been connected to the other Deer families of this area. They lived at Lexie community, close to the Bogue Chitta river, in ol Pike (now Walthall co), MS. Cynthia was a sister of George Gartman, my 3ggf. Living about 4 miles up the Bogue Chitta river, close by Walkers bridge, was Daniel b1779 Keturah Deere b1789 Quin, my 5ggparents. Their grandau Joann Quin b1863 m: George Deer b1857 s/o John Deer b1819. George Deer was my ggf. No info can be found for Keturah Deere, except m: to Dan Quin on several DAR records. None on her family. I suspect a connection of Joseph Deere b1804 Keturah Deere Quin, as they lived about 4 miles apart, both close to the Bogue Chitta river.

1870 Pike Co census #43 lists Cynthia Deer in HH of Martha Blant (?Blunt). Recently found Blount name associated with Choctaw indians. This brings to mind, very persistant local stories of a Deer (Indian) buried just outside the ol John Ford cemetery at Sandy Hook, MS about 12 miles from Lexie. AL had a law aginst burying Indians in white cemeterys The Deer Ford families were some of the first to settle in Marion co, MS. Both were from the same area of SC.

Joseph Deere b1804 son George Washington Dier b 1844 changed his name to Dier.

Joseph Deere b1804 -- Keturah Deere b1789 are related to me on 3 different lines.
